I'm quite excited to be writing a new post as I haven't actually written anything in a while, however I do have quite a few posts that I'm moving over from my old blog (hence the masses of posts).
A couple of weeks ago I was sorting through my draws and I came across a bottle of unopened almond oil which I bought a while ago to mix with essential oils. As oils are gaining a huge following at the moment I was curious about whether you could use almond oil for anything. Oh my God, I don't know why I waiting so long to use it!
I had this weird misconception that might have a reaction to it, as I have really sensitive skin, but almond oil (unless you have a nut allergy) is one of (maybe even the most) delicate oil and is great for sensitive skin! So after a bit of reading I decided to just shove some in my hair as a hair mask. I'm quite new to hair treatments, however I am really starting to think that I should be using them as I have waist length hair that has seen quite a few colour changes in it's time, along with abuse from hair dryers a couple of times a week (.... And straighteners on the odd occasion)....
I rubbed the oil through all of my hair and made sure to get the roots as well. Like my skin, I also have combination hair - which is very fussy when it comes to what I put in it; I was really unsure of what it would do to my hair or if it would just make it really greasy, so I chose a day where I knew that I wouldn't be seeing anyone in the next day or two just incase it couldn't get it out of my hair. I left it in my hair overnight as I thought my hair could really do with some deep treatment. The next day I washed it out of my hair, shampooing it twice before using my conditioner just to try and make sure all the oil excess was out of my hair. I then used my leave-in conditioner and blow dried my hair as usual.
My hair looked so healthy (it wasn't too bad to begin with), was very shiny, and extremely soft! My hair felt great!
I have tried it a few more times since then, and I've also washed my hair without pre-treating it. I've noticed a big difference just in the few weeks, and I can really tell when I haven't used the oil in my hair. One of the biggest differences I have noticed is that my scalp can get quite dry and itchy, however after massaging the oil into my scalp and roots it was instantly transformed and the itchiness stopped. This usually pretty much lasts until the next time I wash my hair as well.
After some further reading I have learnt quite a lot about almond oil. I've seen in quite places that it's just as good as more expensive oils (such as Moroccan oil) but at a very small fraction of the price! It is very inexpensive!
Another thing I've found out is that after 30mins our hair stops absorbing all the oils, so long overnight are pretty pointless, however overnight treatments can be a bit more convenient as you don't need to think about trying to put it in your hair 30mins before washing it. Additionally, it has been said that almond oil can help clean the hair by attracting all of the out of your hair, meaning that when it is washed out it is a better clean.
Personally, I love it! I think I'm a bit of an idiot not to try it sooner. I don't think I'll be rushing out to get any of the more expensive oils anytime soon as I'm really enjoying the benefits of using the almond oil - especially as it's VERY inexpensive for what you get.
The only downside is that it makes a bit if a mess when you wash it out - but you can't win them all I guess...
Bottom line
Would I buy it again? ABSOLUTELY!
Would I recommend it to a friend? ABSOLUTELY!
